- The name “BEMA” refers to the elevated platform in first-century synagogues where the Scriptures were read aloud.
- The aim is: “Love God. Love others. Become people of the Text.” It focuses on walking through the Bible with deep attention to historical, Jewish, and cultural contexts of the text.

What is The Bible Project?
- It’s a non-profit, crowdfunded organization founded in 2014 by Tim Mackie and Jon Collins.
- Their mission: “We help people experience the Bible as a unified story that leads to Jesus.”
- They create free resources (videos, podcasts, articles, study-guides, online classes, a mobile app) to help people engage Scripture with depth.
Tim Mackie
- Tim grew up in Portland, Oregon, and became a follower of Jesus around age 20 through a ministry to skateboarders called SkateChurch.
- He earned his undergraduate and seminary training (among them: Western Seminary) and then completed a PhD in Hebrew Bible & Jewish Studies at University of Wisconsin–Madison. His doctoral research focused on the manuscript history of the book of Ezekiel, including the Septuagint and Dead Sea Scrolls.
- He served as an adjunct professor in biblical studies at Western Seminary (Portland campus) and as a pastor/teacher in local church ministry.
Jon Collins
- Jon Collins was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest (Portland/OR area).
- He earned a BA in Bible and Theology from Multnomah University, where he also became good friends with Tim Mackie.
- After graduating he worked overseas in Christian ministry and served for a year as a pastor.
- He then shifted into digital communication and creative video work, founding or working with companies (such as Epipheo) that produced “explainer videos” for clients including tech and consumer companies.
From there you’ll find at The Bible Project:
- Videos (book overviews, thematic videos)
- Study guides & reading plans
- Podcast episodes (“Watch. Learn. Share. Repeat.”)
- Mobile app (iOS/Android)
- Multiple languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Korean, Mandarin, others)
Richard Rohr and the Center for Action and Ccontemplation

Richard Rohr is a Franciscan friar, writer, and teacher known for helping people grow up spiritually—not just believe things, but actually become transformed people.
He founded the Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) in Albuquerque, where the core idea is:
“The best criticism of the bad is the practice of the better.”
Meaning—transformation starts with inner work that flows outward into compassionate action.
Rohr writes and teaches about:
- spiritual and emotional maturity
- non-dual thinking
- suffering, healing, and transformation
- identity and the True Self
- the universal Christ
- healthy relationship with ego and shadow
- contemplative prayer
- compassionate engagement with the world
He’s widely respected across Christian traditions—Evangelical, Catholic, Mainline, Anabaptist, and more—because he speaks to the inner journey with rare clarity and kindness.
N.T. Wright

N.T. (Tom) Wright is one of the most influential New Testament scholars of the last 50 years.
He’s an Anglican bishop, historian, pastor, and writer who combines:
- deep academic scholarship
- accessible communication
- pastoral warmth
- a focus on the meaning of Jesus, resurrection, kingdom, and new creation
He has shaped how millions of Christians understand:
- Jesus’ historical context
- Paul’s theology
- the early church
- resurrection as central, not optional
- the kingdom of God as a present reality
- the integration of faith, public life, justice, and mission
He’s unusual because he is:
- respected by academics
- trusted by pastors
- clear to everyday readers
Very few scholars move across those levels with credibility.
