Guided Imaginative Prayer

Centering on Jesus and me

“Resting Into My True Identity in Christ”

A 10–12 minute contemplative practice

1. Settle Into Presence

(~1 minute)

Find a quiet place.

Sit comfortably.

Let your shoulders drop.

Let your breathing slow.

Take a deep breath in…and release it slowly.

Say gently in your heart:

“Jesus, I am here. I choose to rest in You.”

Let the pace of your thoughts slow.

Let the room around you soften.

You don’t have to perform.

You don’t have to accomplish anything.

Just be here, as you are.

2. Become Aware of Jesus Beside You

(~1–2 minutes)

Imagine Jesus entering the space where you are.

Don’t force a clear image.

Just allow a sense of His presence to arise—warm, safe, grounded.

What does it feel like when He steps closer?

Imagine Him sitting with you.

Notice His posture—relaxed, unhurried.

Notice His face—kind, attentive.

Let your breathing match His steady, peaceful rhythm.

Say quietly:

“Jesus, help me see You as You truly are.”

3. Hear Jesus Speak Your True Identity

(~2–3 minutes)

Jesus looks at you with eyes that see through every layer of fear, effort, and old identity.

Hear Him speak these words over you:

“You are My beloved.”

“You are holy and blameless in My sight.”

“You are infinitely precious to Me.”

“My Spirit lives in you—you are My temple.”

“You are not alone. I am with you.”

“You are enough because I am enough in you.”

What he says and Scriptural references:

1. “You are My beloved.”

“You are My beloved child; I delight in you. My Spirit bears witness that you belong to Me.”

Mark 1:11; Romans 8:16

“I have loved you with an everlasting love.”

Jeremiah 31:3

“You are precious and honored in my sight… and I love you.”

Isaiah 43:4

2. “You are holy and blameless in My sight.”

“In My love, I chose you before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before Me. Through My reconciliation, you stand in My presence without accusation.”

Ephesians 1:4; Colossians 1:22

3. “You are infinitely precious to Me.”

“You are precious in My eyes, honored, and I love you.”

Isaiah 43:4

4. “My Spirit lives in you—you are My temple.”

“My Spirit dwells in you; you are My temple. I abide in you, and I will not leave you as an orphan.”

1 Corinthians 3:16; John 14:17–18

5. “You are not alone. I am with you.”

“Do not fear, for I am with you. I will never leave you or forsake you. I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Isaiah 41:10; Hebrews 13:5; Matthew 28:20

6. “You are enough because I am enough in you.”

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in your weakness. I am your strength and your portion forever.”

2 Corinthians 12:9; Psalm 73:26

Let each phrase settle.

If one phrase stands out—stay with it.

Let the Spirit press it gently into your imagination like warm oil into dry skin.

Allow yourself to feel what it’s like to be fully seen and fully loved.

4. See Yourself Living From Your True Identity

(~3 minutes)

Now imagine a real situation in your life where you often feel empty, anxious, inadequate, or unseen.

A relational tension…

A moment of pressure…

A place where your “old self” tends to take over.

Now See yourself in that scene—but not as you usually show up.

Instead, imagine yourself as God declares you to be:

– shoulders relaxed

– breath deep and steady

– heart grounded in belovedness

– eyes clear and compassionate

– voice calm and anchored

– posture confident but gentle

– no scrambling, no pretending

– simply yourself in Christ

See Jesus with you in the scene—standing close, hand on your shoulder, speaking peace into the moment.

Notice how your reactions shift when you live from your true identity instead of the old false one.

How do you respond differently?

How do you carry yourself?

What happens in your body?

Let this be a sensory experience:

What do you feel?

What changes in the atmosphere of the room?

Let the Spirit fill the imagined scene with His presence.

5. Allow Jesus to Displace the False Identity

(~2 minutes)

Bring to mind a phrase or feeling your false identity often whispers:

“I’m not enough.”

“I have to hold everything together.”

“I’m on my own.”

“I need to impress them.”

“I’m failing.”

“I don’t matter.”

Picture those words as a thin, dark mist of lies around you.

Now imagine Jesus simply brushing His hand waving away that mist.

Watch it dissolve in the light of His presence.

Hear Him say:

“That is not who you are. You belong to Me.”

Let the mist disappear.

Let His truth remain.

6. Rest in the Real You

(~1–2 minutes)

Return to simply sitting with Jesus.

Feel the peace in your chest.

Feel the gentleness of His nearness.

Feel the spaciousness of being loved without condition.

Say slowly:

“This is who I truly am.”

“This is who You say I am.”

“Help me live from this place.”

Rest here for a few final breaths.

No striving.

No effort.

Just presence.

7. Closing

(~30 seconds)

When you’re ready, let your awareness return to the room.

Wiggle your fingers.

Roll your shoulders.

Take one last deep breath.

Say gently:

“Jesus, thank You. Walk with me today.”

Carry this identity with you into your next conversation, decision, or moment of uncertainty.
